My stops are tight because my success depends on my ability to call very short term reversals in stocks throughout the day. If a stock moves against me quickly after I enter the the trade, I am most likely to exit before it hits my stop loss. It is simply a numbers game in terms of getting trades where I call the direction correctly. My stop loss exists to get me out if the stock falls through the floor before I can react or become emotional about the potential loss.
